Qualitone 1-R horn speaker, minus the paper bell.
This 1922 speaker has a 5-1/2 inch diameter wood base and a 2-5/8 inch diameter wood piece that couples the bell to the driver. There is a plated metal spring clip that holds a driver tight to the wood coupling. There is a fragment of paper from the original bell still embedded in the wood coupling piece. The bell was a simple cone shape with a Qualitone decal on it.
This is a very rare speaker, and mine is the only one I've seen. I did see a Qualitone-2R once which was identical except the wood coupling piece held a pair of headphones so had 2 drivers! I found mine with a Baldwin Type C driver, but I'm showing the speaker without the driver since it was originally sold that way. You could buy any driver to use with it.
If anyone has one of these with an original bell, I'd like to get bell measurements.
